As soon as me and dad got back from saint Anthony's, we had a feeling in our stomach that some thing bad happened and that it had to do with Erik. "Mr. Fisher it seem that your boy has chosen to fight the evidence and say that he did not kill Luis." As soon as that happened, dad linked eyes with Erik and the cop with Erick left. In Lasallian schools the core principle of concern for the poor and social justice invites students and staff to be in solidarity with the poor and advocate for those suffering injustices. This means that people should have awareness of the poor and those who are victims of injustices and respond to their needs by means of community service and advocacy. This core principle is illustrated in the novella, “Saint Emmanuel the Good, Martyr” by Miguel de Unamuno. The main character, Don Emmanuel is the parson of the city of Valverde. The congregation of this parish look up to Don Emmanuel, admire him, and are overtaken by his words in mass. However, the narrator reveals that Don Emmanuel was not a man of faith. “Metamorphosis” by Kafka, presents a story of a young man who one day wakes up and is transformed into a bug. As a result of this transformation, he is mistreated by his family and considered useless in society. In the case of Saint Emmanuel the Good Martyr, there is a character that does not believe in God, yet practices concern for the poor and social justice on a daily basis. On the other hand, we have a character that yearns what Don Emmanuel gives to the citizens in Valverde, care and concern.
It all starts in the beginning of the book On page 10, Paul’s mom states, “‘How about waiting for the rest of us, Eric?’” This quote foreshadows what is to come later on in the story. The deep and dark Eric. This little action may not seem like a big deal, but it shows Eric's future personality. Rude, inappropriate, and violent. To add, on page 52, Paul says, “How could they be happy...Mike Costello's death.” This quote marks the start of many more bad behaviours to come from Erik. This is when the reader starts to think that there is another darker side to Erik that has not been on full display. All in all, Erik is a very shady character to start off, he really doesn’t have a full personality, but that will soon change.

The police arrive at the Fisher’s home to declare Arthur under arrest for killing Luis Cruz. Arthur’s dad mortify face explains to the deputies Arthur’s anecdote. The dad continues with Luis does not belong up there, he is there to pick up a fight. Arthur just gave him one good smack in the face, that is it. He keeps on looking back at his son to make sure this is correct. Arthur stands there, sullen, shaking his head up and down. Paul has enough of these lies and calls out from the crowd of people. “He belonged up there!” “The weapon he used to kill Luis Cruz was a blackjack”(284). Paul continues and says that Erik Fisher commands him to do it. The deputy asked “ Do we have your statement son?”(285). Paul is not done yet, and responds with,“ I wasn’t brave enough,” but when called upon he will. In the beginning of the story Erik scares Paul, but by the end Paul finds the confidence inside of him to stick up for himself.
The name Matthew comes from the Greek Maththaios, which is derived from the Hebrew or Aramaic Mattiyah. His name means “gift of Yahweh” or simply “gift of God.” Saint Matthew was one of the twelve apostles and he wrote the Gospel according to Matthew. Although he was a publican, it is said the Saint Matthew was a Jew. Before his conversion, he was a publican, which was a tax collector, by profession. Not much is really known about Matthew later on in his life. His beginning of apostolic activity started in the communities of Palestine. He wrote for his countrymen in Palestine and composed his Gospel in his native Aramaic. This is refereed to as the “Hebrew tongue” which is mentioned in the Gospel and the Acts of

St. Francis of Assisi was born in Umbria in the year 1182. He was a child every father hoped for, he was filled with life, a determined and courageous individual. He was gifted with rather good looks, qualities that attracted friends and a gift of leadership. His father was an extremely wealthy merchant in Assisi. But this son, his favourite, was the one who broke Peter Bernardone’s heart. The boy turned on his father, and in a vicious event that eventually resulted into a public scene. St. Francis of Assisi stepped away from his father, his business and left his father in a state of immense emotional suffering.
St. Anthony’s story of conversion from landowner to ascetic, while following the steps outlined by Fowler, also conforms to create the ideal journey as described by Searle. Mark Searle is a theology professor who teaches at Notre Dame University . For Searle, conversion should be viewed more as a “Journey of Crisis” , where conversion to a new faith or belief is one that is inspired by a point of total crisis in one’s life. According to Searle, conversion is a form of transition where one gains a new lease on life and worldview in response to a life altering moment. In the case of St. Anthony, this point would clearly be when his parents die. This represents part of the first of the three stages of the conversion journey according to Searle: The Setting Out.

The idea of the hero in Greco-Roman culture was integrated into the idea of the saint (in the process of conversion and totalization) by way of Christianity's adoption of and ancestry in the Greco-Roman culture. As Professor Ambrosio indicates, "The need and the search for meaning is shared by all human beings" (Hero or Saint Saul of Tarsus). Thus, it is no surprise to find that a pagan Greco-Roman title is applicable to a Christian whose virtue is viewed as greater than that of ordinary men just as the hero is viewed as greater (in fame, bravery, strength) than ordinary men. The fact that two of early Christianity's most heroic figures (St. Paul and St. Augustine) were Roman makes this integration even less surprising. This paper will discuss the way in which the hero is integrated into the idea of the saint by comparing Saul of Tarsus with Augustine of Hippo two men who underwent a conversion and rose to "heroic" or "saintly" heights in terms of Christian virtue.
In the book, The Proslogion, written by Saint Anselm, we find the Ontological Argument. This argument made by Saint Anselm gives us proofs that he believes helps prove the existence of God. Anselm gives many reasons as to why the simple understanding of God can help prove that God himself exists, as well as mentioning how the idea of God cannot be thought not to exist. Though this argument has been looked at by people such as Guanilo, a monk, whose response to Anselm 's proofs was trying to say that there were flaws, there are more reasons as to why Anselm 's proofs work well with his argument. From the understanding of God existing, and the idea behind greatness Anselm 's argument is one that is strong and can work as a proof when trying
The life of Saint Anthony was vividly pictured in the narration of his life by no other person than St. Athanasius. In St. Athanasius’ description of St. Anthony, he explored all areas where St. Anthony was modeled as a saint. In light of this, the thesis for this essay states that classical genres to which St. Athanasius modelled the Life of St. Anthony is autobiography/biography, mythology and adventures.
St. Clare of Assisi was born on July 16, 1194 and died on August 11, 1253. Clare lived in Assisi Italy her whole life and was one of the first followers of Saint Francis of Assisi. Saint Augustine, Bishop of Hippo, was one of the greatest philosophers of the roman period. He was raised in a religiously divided home, but through time he found his own truth. He was always an excellent student. He fully mastered the Latin language, however, he never did well with Greek. Saint Augustine was also a man who had a way with words. After his teenage rebellious stage, he found an unorthodox religious group that he decided to become involved with for a while. He traveled the area and ended up staying in Milan for a while. This is where he met Bishop Ambrose and began to listen to his teachings. This caused for Augustine think about his life and ultimately converted him to Christianity. After converting, he wrote books such as: Confessions, The City of God, and De Doctrinia (On Christian Doctrine), along with many others. Saint Augustine was and still is a great Christian influence in the world today.
