When the words “classroom management” arise, most people imagine how the teacher controls behavior in the classroom. However, classroom management encompasses a variety of areas that focus on creating strong, positive communities that support the holistic growth of the student. Although, I considered myself to have a few good techniques I used in my classroom, after five years of teaching, I would score myself as average. I have found my space on the type of teacher I desire to be, as well as the type of environment I want my classroom to have; yet, there is room for improvement and this course has given me a new perspective on classroom management that aids the student and teacher become better individuals. I understand the minor disruptions could add up and when left unattended students begin to lose the trust that the teacher is capable of providing a safe and comfortable learning environment.
Hence, there is a need to refine are my rules and expectations. At the beginning of the school year, time will be spent on class expectations. Students must understand the importance of the standards and guidelines in the classroom. As a class, we will discuss the characteristics of a “good” learning environment and what rules should be set in place in order to accomplish that atmosphere. I believe at the secondary level, democracy in the classroom is a chief factor in gaining student trust. Ultimately, the decisions and consequences of the class fall on the teacher, but adolescents yearn for autonomy and appreciate it when a teacher gives them a voice. Research on effective classroom management shows in order to prevent confusion or misunderstanding, the teacher’s expectations need to be explicit, discussed among the class, modeled by the teacher and adequately practiced by the students (Weinstein, Curran, & Tomlinson- Clarke, 2003).

Being a male going into the elementary school education profession, I feel that I can be a postitive male role model for students who might lack that kind of male role model leadership needs. One of the first things that I will convey to my students is my philosophy on classroom management. My philosophy can be summed up in just two words: RESPECT and LEADERSHIP.
An essential tool to create a safe environment for students to learn is classroom management. I hope to create an effective classroom management plan that dissolves barriers that are stopping students from learning. I am highly committed to make my classroom a safe environment where my students are provided with the best opportunity to be challenged and engaged in learning. As a special education teacher, I seek to meet the needs of every student I work with, so they have a sense of belonging in my classroom. Students in the class are social and very active in class. Students learn how to be respectful, attentive, and demonstrate good behavior in the classroom. The teacher will create a suitable learning environment so that each student can grasp the concepts. There will also be small groups formed for better learning and support opportunities.
My classroom philosophy begins with what type of teacher I will be in my classroom. To have successful classroom management, one must be an effective teacher. Some qualities that make an effective teacher include maintaining high expectations, being consistent, and caring. As a teacher, it is important to have high expectations for your students academically, but also behaviorally. In my classroom, I will uphold the traits and characteristics that I want to see in my students, through my own actions and words. Another quality that I will instill in my classroom and myself is consistency. In my classroom, I will be consistent in my classroom management. I will not favor a student and let them get away with something, and I will not be overly harsh on a student who is having a bad day or week. The classroom is a workshop for learning, and the physical layout and the uses you make of it will affect learning as well as student-student and student-teacher relationships (Van Brummelen, 2009).
To assure that my procedures and expectations are thoroughly known, I plan on continuously practicing my classroom procedures and modeling both them and my behavioral expectations for the students. I want my students to know from Day 1 what my classroom is about and how they are expected to behave in my classroom. I will make sure to implement that mutual respect the moment they walk through my door. All of my students should feel like they belong and are welcome in my class. They should know they while they are in there they will be treated fairly and equally. I will also remind students of the expectations constantly.
Not only does this article confront the dilemma of classroom management, it incorporates many other challenges teachers experience. The Marzanos’ rubric focuses on specific behaviors that are crucial to creating positive student-teacher relationships. It is also clear that modality, diversity, and student life, three qualities that are unique to each student, were all taken into consideration, making this journal a flawless guideline to successful classroom management.
Teaching is a great and exciting experience. However, to have an effective school teacher and for things to run as smooth as possible a teacher must be prepared. In fact, teaching can be rather scary if a teacher is not prepared. A few things that a teacher can to in order to be prepared is to get organized, be consistent and most importantly manage their classroom. Classroom management can be one of the most difficult parts of a teacher’s job. How a teacher handles her class makes a world of difference. Therefore, it is very important to have rules, show consistency, and be organized. Although it can be hard for some newer teachers to swallow their pride they can actually learn a lot from teachers that have “been there and done that.” They can learn from their mistakes and even their successes. In the articles, “Love, Engagement, Support, and Consistency: A Recipe for Classroom Management” (2014), and “Managing Your Classroom for Success” (2012), propose great advice on how to have a successful and well managed classroom.
Classroom management is a popular topic in education. Teachers are always looking for ways to improve their classroom environment, or new ways to deal with problem behaviors. For every person who has ever worked with children, there is an idea, a theory, as to how to best meet children’s needs. Early theorists provide the basis for many current behavior management ideas, and often include a combination of ideas. Theorists such as Abraham Maslow, Rudolf Dreikurs, William Glasser, and Stanley Coppersmith offer insight into the behavior and motivations of children that help teachers design strategies to prevent disruption and provide a positive learning environment for all students.
Education opens the door for endless opportunities. Children begin learning long before they enter the classroom. The school years are used to continuously expand their learning and educate them to be a functioning member of society. I believe every child has the right to receive quality education through quality instruction. Teachers hold one of the most powerful roles in society. My classroom management philosophy is based on a combination of psychoeducational and behavioural theories which, will actively provide an environment where students are engaged, motivated and display appropriate behaviours (Lyons, Ford & Slee, 2014). Using psychoeducational theories as a basis, I will create a learning environment that implements student-teacher relationships, differentiated classroom instruction with equal opportunity to learning and an environment where students feel safe, valued and that they belong (Lyons et al., 2014). My philosophy for teaching is that all students deserve the best possible education a teacher can provide them, and that education begins with classroom management. Classroom management is the foundation to a proper education. The way a teacher manages his or her classroom determines how the classroom will function and how much information the students are able to learn throughout the school day and school year. Students need rules to follow in order to keep the classroom running smoothly. Without rules, students will be unruly and will cause disruptions that will prohibit their fellow classmates from being able to focus and comprehend the material being taught.
The biggest challenge teachers face at the high school level is having a controllable classroom and a healthy learning environment. So today I will be looking at the best techniques and ways teachers use to create a healthy learning environment and controllable classroom for students to learn in and succeed in getting good grades. These techniques to better the classroom and the student’s education involve becoming more personable with students and conforming to their needs to help them with what they struggle with. This can work very well if you can do this but a big problem with this is that some teachers have multiple classes and multiple students a day and these students all have different needs that help them with learning so it is hard for teachers to try and conform to every student’s needs. So that is why managing a classroom and helping students can be a big problem for teachers across the nation.
