2.3 Explain the actions to take when health, safety and risk procedures and practises are not being complied with.
The first thing I would do when noticing that a member of staff is not complying with health and safety procedure is to stop the dangerous practise right away. How I would then act would depend on what the person was doing.
I may stop the individual and show them the correct way to complete the task in a safe way, explaining what I am doing and the reason that it is done this way.

I have built a rapport with the individuals that I support and feel that they take my advice/guidance into consideration and understand that I don’t want to prevent them from doing things and making their own choices. I feel this has helped when supporting individuals in managing risk, being able to work together to find a way for the individual to take full part in the activity/task while still doing everything we can to ensure safety to the individual and those around them.
I promote positive risk taking and lead by example, which can lead to other staff emulating this, also working in a way that promotes positive risk taking. This can lead to others working in a way that promotes positive risk taking.

4.4 Analyse how helping others to understand the balance between risk and rights improve practice.
Helping others to understand the balance between risk and rights can improve practise. I have worked with staff in my time at the Oakmere centre to understand the benefits of positive risk taking and how it not only helps the individuals we support to take opportunities for personal growth, but can also promote self-esteem and mental wellbeing. Giving the individuals opportunities to be self-autonomous is vital to good practise, not doing this could lead to the individuals that we support having low self-esteem and may also lead to the individual displaying challenging behaviour, due to frustration.
