D1: Describe the expected pattern of development of children aged 0-5 years for one of the areas of development:

Development is often referred to on a timeline and is broken down in ages. As development is more rapid in early years the milestones start by being quite close together before becoming further apart as baby becomes a child and then a young adult.

0–3 years – It is important that a baby is stimulated from when they are first born, because this helps them develop communication skills as they get older.

Some aspects of Development follow a definite sequence. This is particular true when it comes to physical development for example, babies have to learn to lift their heads before they can sit; toddlers have to walk before they can run. Child development is a process every child goes through and requires careful guidance. The development process involves learning and mastering skills like sitting, walking, talking, skipping at an early stage to understanding emotions and socially acceptable behavior at later stage. Children learn these skills which are referred to as “milestones” during different stage. For example, one milestone is learning to talk. Most children learn this skill between the ages of 12 and 24 months. I should note, everyone develops at different rate; therefore, it’s important to closely monitor our children. The timing for each development is determined by “nature and nurture”.
