The sequence refers to the order in which development takes place in a child for e.g. a baby learns to hold its head up first prior to learning to sit unassisted. However some babies learn to roll to move before they walk and then learn to crawl. The rate of development refers to time given for the average development of a child; this includes both the physical and cognitive development of a child which is expected at that age. However not all children follow this pattern, for e.g. Some babies learn to walk before the age of 1 year, whilst other learns closer to the milestone age of 2 – 3 years.
