Sawyer Caine Prof. Carter GLST 200-B02 January 29, 2024 Kingdom Perspective Comparison Throughout Scripture we can see the kingdom of God, but when referring to the word kingdom we must dive deeper into the meaning behind it. While studying this it was important to keep revisiting my current understanding and comparing between the textbook. Throughout this I was able to see where my current thoughts matched with the true meaning of the kingdom of God, but also was able to find differences and learn from it. While diving and taking a deeper look at God kingdom I was able to expand my understanding on the true definition of what a kingdom is, limitless of His kingdom, and who the kingdom is for. My previous understanding of the kingdom of God was basic. There was room to learn more and grow my knowledge on it. Although, we don’t really have kingdoms around anymore to me the word kingdom is not the true definition from the Old and New Testaments. In our textbook by Winter and Hawthorne it says, “Primary meaning of both Hebrew word malkuth in the Old Testaments and Greek basileia of New Testaments is rank, authority, and sovereignty exercised by a king” (Winter & Hawthorne Pg. 83). When breaking down the two different terms used for kingdom, we see these qualities that can only be found in the Lord over everything. To my understanding before this kingdom was a reign over people and over a region, but it not about any of that but rather the reign of God over everything. Finding the true definition of Steven C. Hawthorne and Ralph D. Winter, Perspectives on the World Christian Movement, 1999, https://openlibrary.org/books/OL8114791M/Perspectives_on_the_World_Christian_Move ment.
kingdom apart from what we think on earth was crucial to see how amazing and wonderful the kingdom of God truly is. To me the kingdom of God was Gods rule over the earth. I use the word earth because I think when I would consider the kingdom it was a very watered-down version. Yes, Gods kingdom is over the earth, but it is for sure not limited to that. When speaking on the Kingdom of God we cannot add a limit because there will never be a limit on the kingdom of God. As stated above the kingdom of God is not just for people or a realm but is all about Gods reign over everything. Psalm 145:11-13 says “They will tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of you might, so that all men may know of your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations.” (NIV). I n Psalm we are told that his kingdom is everlasting, and we are to tell the glory of his kingdom for men to know of his almighty and all-powerful kingdom over us. Studying the kingdom of God has opened my eyes to the endless power and reign Gods kingdom has forever. Lastly, studying help me to understand who the kingdom is for. Of course, from my understanding from the beginning I knew that the kingdom was for every person here on earth. We can see this in Matthew 28:18 when Jesus says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations”. This verse shows us our role and our great commission inside of the kingdom of God. after studying and hear Winter and Hawthorne say, “The kingdom is not a realm or people, but is Gods reign” (Winter & Hawthorne pg. 85). God’s kingdom is not about a realm or people, while people are one of the most vital parts, it is more about seeing Gods reign over everything and giving him the glory in his kingdom. Rather than the kingdom being about people or something like that, God kingdom is about his sovereignty, power, and reign over everything that he would Steven C. Hawthorne and Ralph D.
