As the principal purpose of gerrymandering is to refine electoral districts in order to gain more votes, it is not really about race. In certain districts, however, gerrymandering can have a significant impact based on race, particularly ones where there is a large majority of one race. This could lead to unfair representation of certain groups of people in a district if it is redrawn to give an advantage to one political party, which is when gerrymandering becomes a race issue, because it is done to give an advantage to one political party. The democratic process would be unfair to everyone if certain demographics that favor a particular party were split up. Although gerrymandering is mostly politically motivated, it can be influenced by race in some circumstances.
2. Should gerrymandering be allowed in our political system? Please explain your answer. In my opinion, gerrymandering is not something we should be allowing in our political system, as all gerrymandering is doing is gaining an advantage to one party over the other, causing distrust between the public and the government, and just further inflaming the distrust between the public and the government. The redrawing of electoral districts in order to gain votes for a particular party is a violation of our democratic process and could invalidate our elections as a result. It is well-known that the United States is a democratic nation built on the principles of equality, so the use of gerrymandering is likely to give certain groups of people the ability to vote for a political party they prefer. As a result, gerrymandering is causing unequal representation among the groups of people affected by gerrymandering, which undermines democracy in these communities.
