What are some of the problems associated with joint and mutual wills? Do you think individual wills are a better alternative? Why or why not? I do think that individual wills are a better option as compared to joint or mutual wills. A joint will is a will between two or more people that also includes restrictions that state the document cannot be revoked without written consent to do so from all parties involved. Mutual wills or reciprocal wills are wills that are separate documents, but they contain the exact same information with the agreement that there will be no changes to the will upon the death of one of the testators. Downsides to these types of wills is that joint wills require consent from both parties to change or revoke the will. The provisions of a mutual will also burden the surviving party. Overall, it is easier and shows less risks to have an individual will as opposed to joint or mutual wills.
