The purpose of this exercise is to construct an interpretative bridge for bringing the truth of the text to its expression in the sermon.

The occasion for Paul writing to the Philipians is to encourage them to stay committed and faithful to the spreading the Gospel in every situation and circumstance.

Write the text idea

Paul was writing the church (past, present, and future) to encourage it to continue in the work of spreading the Gospel despite whatever it is facing. Moreover, that presucution is a way to strengthen ones faith.
Write the sermon idea
by adopting the wording of the textual idea. Omit the historical trappings and make it a present-tense statement of a universal theological principle. Make sure it contains the subject/modifier

As a Disciple of Jesus we are to give everything to spread the Gospel and no matter what we are to Preach Jesus!
Write a purpose statement
for the sermon with what you would like to see in response to the ideas of the text.
I want you to remember that in life what ever circumstance you are facing Jesus is there. No matter what happens in your life Jesus is there. No matter what you are doing Jesus is there. No matter how bad the situation Jesus is there. Jesus will be there with you in all things.
