Aleutian Range
 
 
Aleutian Range (uh-LOO-shen), volcanic mountain chain, c.1,600 mi/2,600 km long, SW Alaska, extending W from L. Iliamna along the Alaska Peninsula, and continuing, partly submerged as the Aleutian Isls., to Attu isl. Mt. Redoubt (10,200 ft/3,109 m) is the highest peak. Part of the volcanic belt that rings the Pacific Ocean, the Aleutian Range has been active in recent years, notably at mts. of Augustine, Veniaminov, and Akutan.
