Greenup, county (354 sq mi/917 sq km; 1990 pop. 36,742), extreme NE Ky.; Greenup; 38°32'N 82°55'W. Bounded N and E by Ohio R. (Ohio state line); drained by Little Sandy R. and Tygarts Creek. E part is urbanized and part of Huntington (W.Va.)–Ashland metropolitan area. Hilly agr. area (corn, burley tobacco, apples, hay, alfalfa, soybeans; cattle); iron deposits. Some mfg. at Russell. Greendo L. State Resort Park in center; Jesse Stuart State Nature Preserve in NE center, Bennett’s Mill Covered Bridge in N, Old Town Covered Bridge in S. Formed 1803.
