Dry Harbour, village, St. Ann parish, N Jamaica, 13 mi/21 km W of St. Anns Bay, on fine bay, where Christopher Columbus on his 2d voyage made his 1st landing in Jamaica (May 4, 1494) and took possession of the isl. for Spain; 18°28'N 77°24'W. Columbus named the actual spot which he landed Horseshoe Bay, because of the peculiar shape of the land. This was changed to Dry Harbour and eventually, a final name change was made to Discovery Bay. There are caves with aboriginal remains nearby. The adjoining interior uplands are called Dry Harbour Mts.
