Greensville, county (296 sq mi/767 sq km; 1990 pop. 8,853), S Va.; Emporia; 36°40'N 77°33'W. Independent city of Emporia is separate from co. Bounded S by N.C. state line, N by Nottoway R.; drained by Meherrin R. (forms part of E boundary) and Fontaine Creek branch. Mfg. (processing of farm prods.) at Emporia; agr. (esp. peanuts; also cotton, tobacco, hay, wheat, corn, soybeans, melons, eggs; cattle, hogs, poultry); timber. Formed 1781.
