Folsom, city (1990 pop. 29,802), Sacramento co., central Calif., a suburb 20 mi/32 km ENE of downtown Sacramento, and on American R.; 38°41'N 121°10'W. In general agr. and citrus-fruit area; nursery stock, grain; poultry; dairying. Mfg. (computer equip., electronic equip.). Seat of a state prison. Folsom Dam is to NE, forms Folsom L. reservoir State Recreation Area. First steam RR in Calif. was built from here to Sacramento in 1856. Founded 1855 on road to the goldfields; inc. 1946.
