Bogue Island
 
 
Bogue Island (BOG) or Bogue Banks, narrow sand barrier (c.25 mi/40 km long), Carteret co., E N.C., bet. Atlantic Ocean (Onslow Bay, S) and Bogue Sound (N). On E end are town of Atlantic Beach and Fort Macon State Park (1/2 sq mi/1.3 sq km; recreational facilities; town of Emerald Isles in W part; old fort begun in 1820s, restored 1936). Bridges to mainland at both ends. Intracoastal Waterway passes to N in Bogue Sound.
