Carson, county (924 sq mi/2,393 sq km; 1990 pop. 6,576), extreme N Texas; Panhandle; 35°24'N 101°20'W. In high plains of the Panhandle; elev. 3,300 ft/1,006 m3,500 ft/1,067 m. Drained by McClellan Creek (source), and small tributaries of Red and Canadian rivers. Cattle ranching and wheat, corn, hay region, underlaid by Panhandle natural gas and oil field, one of worlds largest, with gas pipelines to several U.S. cities. L. Meredith Natl. Recreation Area and Alibates Flint Quarries Natl. Monument 1 mi/1.6 km beyond NW corner of co. Formed 1876.
