Cocula (ko-KOO-lah), city (1990 pop. 11,835) and township, Jalisco, W Mexico, on central plateau, and 35 mi/56 km SW of Guadalajara on Mexico Hwy. 80; 20°23'N 103°49'W. Elev. 4,698 ft/1,432 m. Orange growing center; wheat, sugarcane, beans, alfalfa; livestock. The mariachis of Cocula are famous.
