Chicoutimi (shi-KOO-ti-mee), city (1991 pop. 62,670), S Que., E Canada, at the confluence of the Chicoutimi and Saguenay rivers; 48°26'N 71°04'W. The cultural and economic center of the Saguenay area. Aluminum plants, pulp, paper, and textile mills; wrought iron and leather goods. A Jesuit mission est. here in 1676. In the city is a branch of the Université de Québec.
