Granma
 
 
Granma (GRAHN-mah), province (1994 est. pop. 818,000), SE Cuba; Bayamo. Bordered NE by Holguín prov., NW by Las Tunas prov., S by Caribbean Sea, E by Guantánamo prov., and W by the Gulf of Guacanayabo. One of five provs. created in 1976 from former Oriente prov. Drained in N by Cauto R. Important cities include Bayamo (pop. 132,000), Manzanillo (pop. 98,000). Sierra Maestra in SE. Cauto R. valley in Central prov. produces 40–50% of national rice production. Sugar mfg. at foot (N slope) of Sierra Maestra, with coffee production in the mts.
