Park in NW; Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge (Natl.) Parkway follow W boundary, the latter becoming Skyline Drive in Shenandoah Park. Known for historic estates (notably Monticello and Ash Lawn); Univ. of Va. at Charlottesville. Formed 1774.
