Cayuga (kai-YOO-guh), county (778 sq mi/2,015 sq km; 1990 pop. 82,313), W central N.Y.; Auburn; 42°56'N 76°33'W. Bounded N by L. Ontario and extending S into Finger Lakes region; crossed by N.Y. State Barge Canal; drained by Seneca R. Dairying and farming (hay, corn, grain) area, with diversified mfg. mainly at Auburn. Summer residences on scenic Cayuga, Skaneateles, and Owasco lakes. Named for the 4th tribe of the Iroquois Confederacy. Formed 1799.
