Cocoa
 
 
Cocoa (KO-ko), city (9 sq mi/23.3 sq km; 1990 pop. 17,722), Brevard co., E central Fla., on the Indian R. (a lagoon), a segment of the Intracoastal Waterway; 28°22'N 80°45'W. It is a tourist center in a region where citrus fruits are grown. An 8-mi/12.9-km causeway leads from the city over Indian R. to Merritt Island, Cocoa Beach, and the Cape Canaveral space-launch complex. Brevard Community Col. is in the city. Patrick Air Force Base is nearby. Inc. 1895.
