Farmington River
 
 
Farmington River, c.40 mi/64 km long, N Conn.; formed at New Hartford by junction of West Branch (c.30 mi/48 km long), rising in S Mass., and East Branch (c.14 mi/23 km long); flows SE to Farmington, thence N and SE to the Connecticut above Hartford. Water is supplied to Hartford and suburbs from Barkhamsted and East Branch reservoirs on East Branch and Nepaug Reservoir (c.3 mi/4.8 km long), S of New Hartford on a short W tributary. Recreational tubing at New Hartford. Some success with salmon restoration.
