Conchas Lake
 
 
Conchas Lake (KAWN-chuhs), reservoir (c.25 sq mi/65 sq km), San Miguel co., NE N.Mex., on Canadian R. at confluence of Conchas R. (W arm), 28 mi/45 km WNW of Tucumcari; 35°24'N 104°11'W. The reservoir is c.13 mi/21 km long, with a max. capacity of 600,000 acre-ft. Formed by Conchas Dam (concrete; 235 ft/72 m high, 1,250 ft/381 m long), built (1940) by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood control and irrigation. Conchas L. State Park is here.
