Dinwiddie, county (507 sq mi/1,313 sq km; 1990 pop. 22,319), SE central Va.; Dinwiddie; 37°04'N 77°37'W. Petersburg is inside but independent of co. Bounded N by Appomattox R., SW by Nottoway R. Agr. (tobacco, barley, wheat, corn, soybeans, peanuts, cotton, hay; hogs, cattle; dairying); lumber milling, granite quarrying. Battlefields at Five Forks and in Petersburg vicinity to NE were among the last struggles (April 1865) of Civil War. Part of Fort Pickett Military Reservation in W, Poplar Grove Natl. Cemetery in NE. Formed 1752.
