Grand Prairie
 
 
Grand Prairie, city (1990 pop. 99,616), Dallas and Tarrant cos., N Texas, suburb 12 mi/19 km WSW of Dallas and 17 mi/27 km E of Fort Worth; 32°41'N 97°01'W. Elev. 528 ft/161 m. Drained by W Fork Trinity R. and Mountain and Bear creeks. Located in a highly urbanized and rapidly growing area, the city’s boom caused its pop. to double from 1970 to 1990. Grand Prairie is a distribution center with a large aerospace industry. Other mfg. includes food packaging, tools, machinery, furniture, electronic equip., excavating equip.; printing and publishing. A nearby auto assembly plant adds to the city’s economy. Dallas–Fort Worth Internatl. Airport to N; Grand Prairie Municipal Airport in W; Dallas Naval Air Station on Mountain Creek L., on E boundary; “Six Flags over Texas” amusement park is to W in Arlington. L.
