Aztec (AZ-tek), town (1990 pop. 5,479), San Juan co., NW N.Mex., 14 mi/23 km ENE of Farmington, on Animas R., near Colo. state line, in foothills of Rocky Mts.; elev. 5,623 ft/1,714 m.; 36°49'N 108°00'W. Trade center in fruit-growing region; grain, pumpkins, potatoes, blue corn; cattle, sheep. Aztec Ruins Natl. Monument is to NW; Navajo Lake Reservoir and State Park to E (San Juan R.); Southern Ute Indian Reservation to N (in Colo.).
