Doña Ana (DON-yuh A-nuh), county (3,804 sq mi/9,852 sq km), S N.Mex.; Las Cruces. Irrigated agr. and livestock area; watered by Rio Grande; bounded S by Texas and Mexico (Chihuahua state). Cattle, sheep; dairying; chiles, jalapenos, onions, lettuce, pecans, cotton, corn, hay, alfalfa, sorghum wheat, spinach, triticale, melons, cabbage, fruit, nuts. Stone. Organ Mts. in E, part of White Sands Natl. Monument in NE. Formed 1852. Acquirre Springs Natl. Recreation Area in E; Leasburg Dam State Park and Fort Selden State Monument in N center; part of large White Sands Missile Range, including White Sands Space Harbor (landing site of space shuttle), in NE corner.
