Granite (GRA-nit), county (1,733 sq mi/4,488 sq km; 1990 pop. 2,548), W Mont.; Philipsburg; 46°25'N 113°27'W. Georgetown L. on SE boundary, Garnet Range in NE, Continental Divide forms SE boundary (Anaconda Range), Sapphire Mts. form the W boundary. Mining and agr. region, drained N by the Clark Fork R. and by Flint and Rock creeks. Crater. Silver, sapphires; hay; cattle. Discovery Basin Ski Area in SE, Garnet Ghost Town in N; parts of Deerlodge Natl. Forest in center E, S, and SW; Flint Creek Range in E; part of Lolo Natl. Forest in NW. Formed 1893.
