Claremore, city (1990 pop. 13,280), Rogers co., NE Okla., 25 mi/40 km ENE of Tulsa; 36°18'N 95°37'W. RR junction. In cattle and agr. area; dairying; mfg. (machinery, tubing, fabricated metal prods., wood prods., dry docks/boat lifts, sinker bars, transportation equip., cheese; printing). Health resort, with mineral springs. Oil, gas wells; sandstone quarries, strip coal mines. Will Rogers b. nearby; lived 10 mi/16 km NNW; a memorial to him was dedicated in 1938. J. M. Davis Gun Mus. and Rogers State Col. (2-year) here. Settled in late 19th cent. on site of a Native Amer. town. Inc. as town 1896, as city 1908.
