Amelia (uh-MEEL-yuh), county (358 sq mi/138 sq km; 1990 pop. 8,787), central Va.; Amelia Court House; 37°20'N 77°58'W. Bounded N and NE by Appomattox R. (forms L. Chesdin in E corner of co.), SE by small Namozinc Creek. Agr. (mainly tobacco; also corn, barley, wheat, hay, alfalfa, soybeans; cattle; dairying); timber. Feldspar, mica, pegmatite deposits. Formed 1735.
