Chickamauga Lake
 
 
Chickamauga Lake (CHI-kah-MAW-guh), reservoir (54 sq mi/140 sq km), Hamilton, Meigs, and Rhea cos., SE Tenn., on Tennessee R., 5 mi/8 km NE of downtown Chattanooga; c.60 mi/97 km long; 35°06'N 85°12'W. Max. capacity 705,300 acre-ft. Hiwassee R. forms 20-mi/32-km SE arm. Formed by Chickamauga Dam (129 ft/39 m high), built (1940) by TVA for navigation, flood control, and power generation. State parks on SE shore.
