Concord, city (1990 pop. 111,348), Contra Costa co., W central Calif., suburb, 14 mi/23 km NE of downtown Oakland, 5 mi/8 km S of Suisun Bay; 37°58'N 122°00'W. In an oil refining and farm region (nursery stock; apples), displaced by urban development. Mokelumne Aqueduct passes through the city. Petroleum refining and hundreds of other companies with 25 or less employees. The city is the E terminus for rapid transit to the San Francisco Bay area. A junior col. is there, and a U.S. naval station and ammunition depot is nearby, which contains Port Chicago Natl. Memorial. Mount Diablo State Park to SE. Settled c.1852, inc. 1906.
