Fort Sumner, town (1990 pop. 1,269),  De Baca co., E N.Mex., on Pecos R., and 60 mi/97 km W of Clovis; 34°28'N 104°14'W. Trade and shipping point in livestock and irrigated agr. region (cattle, sheep; grain, sorghum). Mfg. (feeds, windmills). Sumner L. Reservoir, on Pecos Bay, and Sumner Lake State Park, to NW.
