Fort Stockton, town (1990 pop. 8,524), Pecos co., extreme W Texas, c.150 mi/241 km WSW of San Angelo; 30°53'N 102°53'W. Elev. 2,954 ft/900 m. Trade and shipping center for cattle, sheep, and goats; oil area; light mfg. Old Fort Stockton (founded 1859; now in ruins) and Comanche Springs (Indian watering place; now used for irrigation) are nearby. Paisano Pete, large scale roadrunner statute.
