ATTRIBUTION:Alexander Hamilton (1757–1804), U.S. statesman. Letter, April 30, 1781 (1789-1795).

Later, as secretary of the treasury, Hamilton sponsored legislation to pay off the debt of the Continental Congress, and to charter the short-lived Bank of the United States.
