Davenport, Herbert Joseph
1861–1931, American economist, b. Wilmington, Vt., Ph.D. Univ. of Chicago, 1898. He taught at the Univ. of Missouri and at Cornell. In Value and Distribution (1908) and The Economics of Enterprise (1913) he followed the principles of classical economics, attempting to purify them of nonscientific elements. He made contributions to the theories of cost, interest, and taxation and was a critic of Alfred Marshall.
