Benda, Julien

(zhülyN´ bäNdä´) (KEY) , 1867–1956, French novelist and critic. A humanist and rationalist, he led a sustained attack against the romantic philosophy of his time, especially that of Bergson. In The Treason of the Intellectuals (1927, tr. 1928) he accused his contemporary thinkers of abandoning truth and succumbing to political passions.
