Arcimboldo, Giuseppe
 
 
(jzp´p ärchmbôl´d) (KEY) , 1537–93, Italian painter. Court painter to the Hapsburg kings, Arcimboldo is celebrated for his grotesque, realistically rendered, symbolic portraits constructed from fruits, vegetables, animals, etc. His Winter (1563) is in the Vienna Kunsthistorische Museum. Arcimboldo’s fanciful mannerist works were frequently imitated.
