NOUN: A porch or balcony, usually roofed and often partly enclosed, extending along the outside of a building. Also called Regional gallery.
ETYMOLOGY:Hindi vara, probably from Portuguese varanda (perhaps ultimately from Vulgar Latin *barra, barrier, bar).
