Song: “Shake off your heavy trance”

By Francis Beaumont (1584–1616)

  • From a Masque written to do honor to the marriage of the Lady Elizabeth and the Count Palatine, February 14, 1613.
This daughter of James I. became the mother of the Electress of Hanover, and it is through her that the present Royal Family of England succeeded to the throne.

  • SHAKE off your heavy trance,

    And leap into a dance,

Such as no mortals use to tread,

    Fit only for Apollo

To play to, for the Moon to lead,

And all the stars to follows!
